Ruth Ann Somervell graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors of Music degree in Music Studies. She is a composer and arranger who has written many commissioned works for choir and piano pedagogy. She taught private piano for five years in the Austin area where she specialized in children from ages five and up as well as adults. She enjoys working with students of all ages and likes to compose music for them. Mrs. Somervell has also taught middle school choir in the Austin Independent School District as well as directed children's chorus camps. She has recently moved to the Dallas area with her husband, Mark, who has his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas. Mark is employed in the research division of Texas Instruments.
