Trophy and Ribbon Festivals
Gray School of Music holds two festivals every year – Trophy Festival in the Fall, and Ribbon Festival in the Spring. At a festival, students perform solo pieces by memory to a judge, who evaluates the performance and writes comments to help the students improve. Each student will receive a trophy / ribbon for participating at the festival. This is a motivating, challenging yet encouraging, and fun event that the children enjoy. Participation at the festival is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory.
The recital is held at the end of each semester – April/May in the Spring, and December in the Fall. This is a great opportunity for students to perform in front of an audience. It is also essential in promoting artistic development, as students learn from watching their peers while gain confidence and motivation through the recognition of their hard work. Teachers strive to make each recital a positive and enjoyable experience.
A Coffee House is a casual performance session that is held a few times throughout the year. Students who participate in Coffee Houses enjoy the relaxed setting and often use them as practice for the Festivals and Recitals. Light refreshments are served during Coffee Houses.
The Honors Recital is held once a year in the Spring. This is a joint recital that features students from many teachers. Students that are selected to participate in this recital demonstrate excellence in musicianship, and each is recognized with a special trophy.
