Krista Benesch is a Piano and Voice Teacher for Gray School of Music
Krista Benesch is an accomplished pianist and vocalist. A Nebraska native, Krista has studied piano since kindergarten and began studying classical voice in high school. As a pianist, she has won various local and regional contests and has served as an accompanist for several choirs at churches and high schools.
As a vocalist, Krista won numerous awards, notably the Friends of Opera scholarship competition (at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln), first place in the Nebraska NATS competition for junior and senior women, and honorable mention recognition from Orfeo Music Festival in Italy. She has also performed as a soloist with various churches, including St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and Prince of Peace Church in Kearney, Neb., and Trinity United Methodist Church in Omaha. A mezzo soprano, Krista also has had leading roles in operas, including Ma in The Tender Land and Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors.
In May 2020, Krista graduated with high honors with her degree in music education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. For the past three years, she has served as Youth Music Director at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Lincoln, Neb., where she taught weekly music classes to students ages pre-school through high school, and conducted monthly church performances. Her responsibilities also included coordinating an annual Christmas pageant and spring outdoor music festival. For the past year, Krista has taught for Lincoln Public Schools while maintaining a studio of voice and piano students.
A student and teaching assistant at Southern Methodist University, Krista is pursuing her master’s degree in vocal performance. In her free time, you can find Krista checking out local restaurants, preparing new dishes while never following a recipe, and enjoying the outdoors, generally running, biking, or playing tennis.
