How Gray School of Music Started
Gray School of Music began in 1966 in Richardson, Texas, as Vicki Gray began teaching piano to area students. With 50 years in business, Gray School of Music has seen the music community in Dallas grow and flourish.
In 1989, Gray Piano Studios moved to Preston Hollow where a large studio was custom built into her home. At this location, the school grew to have four teachers and over one hundred piano students. Students enjoyed participating in piano operas, theme recitals, and many creative activities.
In 1998, the school was renamed to Gray School of Music. The school moved to the present location in a commercial shopping center at Preston and Forrest. Gray School of Music continued to grow from a facility with four teaching studios to a school with sixteen teaching studios and a recital hall. Boston and Steinway grands were added to studios as growth continued. Gray School of Music now offers lessons in piano, guitar, voice, violin, and drums. Piano group classes are also offered for children as well as adults.
Gray School of Music Faculty
The faculty are carefully hired with the high standards maintained. All teachers must have masters or doctorate degrees in piano, voice, percussion, violin, or guitar. All piano lessons are taught on grand pianos so that students can experience playing on the finest of instruments. Class piano lessons are being taught in larger studios on digital keyboards. Guitar, drum, and voice studios contain large mirrors for teaching as well as amplifiers, digital pianos, and equipment necessary for vocal, percussion, string, and guitar instruction.
The Gray School of Music Difference
Over the past five decades, the business has grown to meet the needs of musical instruction in the community. As one of the oldest music school in Dallas, many traditions have been established. Beautiful recitals, fun festivals, and performances have been incorporated into the teaching of students. Lessons are still taught the old fashioned way with creativity in a warm, caring environment. We will strive for fifty more years to serve the musical needs of the community of North Dallas.
