    Making Musicians for Life

    Elise Pettijohn

Elise Pettijohn Piano Teacher for Gray School of Music

Elise Pettijohn is a pianist and teacher in Dallas who has years of experience teaching a wide variety of ages and levels of musical background. She received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma in Norman.

Elise grew up in Southeast Missouri and loved the piano from a young age. She participated in many festivals and recitals, receiving top marks and representing her district at state-wide competitions. Knowing she wanted to teach, she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. It was there that she began teaching, and her desire to continue down that path led her to the University of Oklahoma in Norman, home to one of the most active and reputable Piano Pedagogy programs in the United States. At OU, she received her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, studying piano under Dr. Jeongwon Ham and pedagogy under Dr. Barbara Fast and Dr. John Patrick Murphy. In her second year, she served as president of the Music Teachers National Association collegiate chapterPettijohn

Her primary goals in teaching include helping students realize their own potential and developing their abilities to independently learn, be expressive, and overcome challenges. In her spare time, she enjoys being with friends and family, reading, and learning to play new musical instruments!”
