Most on-campus individual piano lessons are taught on Steinway or Boston grand pianos with conventional keyboards. One of our teachers, Dr. Eri Yoshimura, can also teach with a special 7/8 scale keyboard called Ergonomically Scaled Piano Keyboard (ESPK) that has narrower keys than a conventional keyboard. As we wear shoes or clothes that fit to our body size, it is more natural for smaller hands to play on smaller keys, so young students often enjoy playing on ESPK.
