Michelle Wijay is a piano teacher for the Gray School of Music
Born in Jakarta, Michelle Wijaya started playing piano at the age of 7. Michelle performed her first piano solo recital at the age of 13, and on the same year, she got awarded for being the youngest in Indonesia to perform and record all Schubert impromptus. Michelle performed another solo recital in the Sydney Opera House in 2016, which resulted with a standing ovation from the audience. In 2018, she gave her third solo recital in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Michelle’s achievements were dated back to at the age of 11, when she won first place in ACE piano solo competition in Indonesia. At the age of 14, she won third prize for CDE open piano competition. Upon finishing high school, Michelle received a full scholarship to major in piano performance with Dr. Michael Baron at Florida Gulf Coast University. During her study, she won 1st prize for Grey Perry Competition in 2021, MTNA State Winner in 2021, 3rd prize for Kuleshov International Competition in 2022, 1st prize for Prescott Piano Division competition in 2022, and 2nd prize for UPH National Competition 2022. Currently, Michelle is pursuing her graduate study at Southern Methodist University to deepen her knowledge of teaching and performing skills under Dr. Catherine Lysinger and Dr. Carol Leone.
Besides playing piano, Michelle likes reading books, going to the gym, drawing, and composing some music. She also likes learning psychology on her free time.
